FAQ
FAQ
Common questions, answered plainly.
Some of these are questions readers have actually asked. Others are questions they would ask if they thought of them. All of them are answered as directly as the app allows.
Can I use LT App without creating goals?
Yes. The app works fully without goals. You can schedule subjects, complete tasks, and reflect without ever creating a goal.
What you lose is the signal/noise measurement โ the app will not distinguish between tasks that are aligned with a goal and tasks that are not. Every completed task counts the same. For many users, that is fine. For others, goals are the reason they use the app.
What is the inkblot on first login, and why is it there?
That is the Rorschach overlay โ a threshold ritual that plays once per browser session, on the first authenticated page load. It is not a feature. It is a moment.
The Rorschach is a psychological tool โ a set of symmetrical inkblots used in clinical settings to invite free interpretation. The technique is best known in popular culture through *The Mentalist*, where the protagonist uses similar ambiguous imagery to read people. The app borrows the form without the function: it does not interpret you. It simply places something ambiguous in front of you and lets you notice what you notice.
Why this ritual, here? Because the app is not a spreadsheet, and it does not want to be mistaken for one. The Rorschach is a reminder that the app is interested in how you *see* your time, not only in how you *record* it. It holds for a few seconds, then fades. It plays once per browser session. If your system is set to reduce motion, it is skipped entirely.
You cannot trigger it manually. It arrives when it arrives.
Where is my data stored, and who can see it?
Your data is stored in a private database on the operator's server. It is not shared with any third party, not sold, and not used for advertising.
Every user's data is scoped to their own account. When you log in, you see only your own subjects, tasks, goals, reflections, progress, and gold. No other user can see any of it.
The one exception is the leaderboard in the Arena, which shows your username, XP, level, and streak to other logged-in users. You can opt out of appearing on the leaderboard at any time โ a small link at the bottom of the leaderboard tab removes your row from everyone else's view, while leaving you able to see your own rank.
See [Privacy & Data] for the full statement.
Can I use LT App on my phone?
Yes. The app is a responsive web application โ it works in any modern browser on any device, including phones and tablets. The layout adapts to the screen: the calendar collapses to a vertical scroll on narrow widths, the Arena tabs stack, and the navigation adapts to smaller touch targets.
There is no native mobile app. Opening the site in your phone's browser gives you the full experience.
What is the difference between a task, a ritual, and a deviation?
A task is the general word โ anything on the calendar, regardless of type.
A ritual is a recurring pattern. It lives in the subjects table and generates virtual sessions on the calendar on its scheduled days.
A deviation is a single ritual occurrence that has been moved, changed, or completed. When a virtual session is altered, it becomes a real row in the sessions table, replacing the virtual one for that date. The ritual itself does not change. A deviation is what actually happened.
An independent task is a one-off โ a task with no ritual parent. It also lives in the sessions table, alongside deviations.
Can I export my data?
Not yet. Your data lives in the app's database and is accessible through the app's own views โ you can read and edit your subjects, tasks, goals, and reflections in place โ but there is no single "download everything" button.
Data export is a candidate for a future phase. If you need a copy of your data before then, contact the operator directly.
What happens if I miss a day?
Nothing punitive. The app does not nag, does not send notifications, and does not reset anything you have earned.
Your streak will reset to zero if you miss a day, unless you have a streak shield purchased from the shop โ which absorbs one missed day and keeps the streak intact. Streak shields are consumed silently; you will notice one has been used the next time you look at the streak panel.
Your XP, your levels, your rank, your achievements, and your gold are all unaffected by a missed day. They accumulate permanently.
Can I use the app offline?
No. The app requires a connection to the server to load and to record any changes. There is no offline mode and no local caching of your data.
If you are offline, the app will not load. Drafts of reflections you have started in the modal are stored in your browser and will be preserved if you close the tab, but nothing is saved to the server until you are back online.
Why does the app not send me notifications?
By design. The app has no notification system โ no emails, no browser push, no reminders.
This is deliberate. The app is designed to be opened when you want to open it, not when it wants to interrupt you. It does not chase. It waits.
If you want reminders, a separate calendar or reminder app can serve that purpose. The app's role is to be the place you think about your time, not the place that interrupts you about it.
Is there a dark mode?
The app is dark by default. There is no light mode, and none is planned.
The palette โ dark background, muted text, a single accent โ was chosen as the app's identity, not as a theme option. What you can change is the accent colour; see Customization.
Can I change my username?
Not currently. Usernames are set at registration and are used in the leaderboard. There is no rename flow in the app.
If you need to change your username for any reason, contact the operator directly.
Why is there only one S-Rank per month?
The S-Rank is a distinction, not a score. It is designed to be rare.
Once a month, you can promote one session to S-Rank โ the single event that mattered most in that month. There is only one per month because a month has one event that matters most, at least as far as the app is concerned. That is a design decision, not a technical limit.
The S-Rank is separate from the S-Rank rank tier (level 76+). See Progression for the distinction.
